Marilee Jones, a prominent crusader against the pressure on students to build their r?sum?s for elite colleges, resigned yesterday as dean of admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after acknowledging she had misrepresented her academic credentials.
Jones has been a popular speaker on the college-admissions circuit, urging parents not to press their kids too hard, and has told students there are more important things than getting into the most prestigious colleges. She rewrote MIT's application to get students to reveal more about their personalities and passions and to de-emphasize lists of their accomplishments.
But Jones, dean since 1997, issued a statement saying she had misrepresented her credentials when she came to work at MIT 28 years ago and "did not have the courage to correct my r?sum? when I applied for my current job or at any time since."
MIT Chancellor Phillip L. Clay said in a telephone interview that another MIT dean had received a phone call questioning Jones's credentials, prompting an inquiry that took several days. It found that Jones had claimed to have degrees from Union College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College, but she had no degrees from any of those schools.
Jones had become one of the most public voices urging parents, students and especially colleges themselves to "lower the flame" surrounding college admissions.
Last year, she co-authored a book on the subject, "Less Stress, More Success: A New Approach to Guiding Your Teen Through College Admissions and Beyond."
"We're raising a generation of kids trained to please adults," Jones told the Associated Press in an interview last year. "Every day, kids should have time when they're doing something where they're not being judged. That's the big difference with this generation. They're being judged and graded and analyzed and assessed at every turn. It's too much pressure for them."

I personally don't root for any team. Not much of a sports fan.... odd really considering every guy in my family is, but then again I am nothing like anyone else in my family... so that could be why.

All I can say is for J1 physician is different then regular J1 visa. If you are J1 physician you have to serve 3 years in an underserved area on H1b visa and then and then you can get your GC. If you file NIW for physician you can apply for I-140 and I-485 but you will get GC after 5 yrs of service in an underserved area.

I am on the same boat
Here's my scenario
I Was on H1B that Sponspored my GC with Comapny A, got my I140 Approved, passed more than 180 days after 485 and even got my EAD. Currently moved to a different company B that transfered H1B.I have my EAD that is not been used till now. Can I use my EAD to work on a part-time job. If I use are there any issues with H1B with my current employer or any issues while travellling. As I no longer work with the company that sponspored GC would working on a part-time EAD with another company create any problem with the GC process.

But the website yesterday indicated that they had collected the funds to take care of moving Mahesh and his stuff to India, and that's why they stopped the collections.

Nope. My lawyer did a mistake to correct himself he applied though dates were not current.
What do you think now? any suggestion.
I would think that you did not file at all.
If the PD was not current at the time of the first submission they should not even cash the check with the fee.

I am planning a family trip to Mexico for few days and would like to get some suggestion or personal experience on how to re-enter to United States. Here is my situation:
Wife has a valid H4 stamp in her passport which is good for another year. We also applied for travel document after we filed for I-485 but she has never used that travel document. Now the question is what do we use for her, H4 or travel doc, when we re-enter US from Mexico? I can't think of any reason why she shouldn't be able to use her H4 to re-enter but the fact that she also has a travel document, will the officer require her to use travel doc and enter and parole. In that case, does she lose her H4 status and just become a parole or should she not even show the travel doc and just the H4.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi,
I will be traveling to India tomorrow and My AP expires 30-Aug-2010. My trip is only for 10 days and I will be back by Aug12.
So I was wondering if there will be any issues at POE or in India, since my AP expires in less than 30 days?
This is my second trip on AP.
Also, what all I need to carry? I have EAD, Employment letter, 485-receipt, 2 Pay stubs, W2 ?
Adding to this, my PD will be current from Aug-1st :(
Any suggestions, inputs most welcome. (This is a medical emergency with parent.so cannot avoid)

My wife collected her's from VFS but they do not give it out the same day either at the consulate or the VFS. The earliest I guess is 3 PM the next day that you can collect it.

Also I suggest to take an infopass and explain the situation to officer. Take a printout of approval mail and give a try.

Some lawyers ask for bank statement and w2s and file I 864 with GC to show proof that you can support your dependents(if you have any). Ideally I 864 is only required when you file Family based GC.
Some other lawyers similarly ask for I 134 and bank statement to show that you can support dependents. Again this is NOT REQUIRED.
There is no clarity on what should be done. Each lawyer has his/her own style of filing 485 so if your lawyer asked for it, provide it. If not, don't bother. I know of people filing with and without 864 or 134 and still getting approved.

Would there be delay in issuing EAD for my spouse if there is RFE for I-485 application? Is EAD depends on I-485 approval.? My birth certificate have some mistake in father's name. It will take time as we need to do change in original birth record. So I am submitting affidavit right now.
