If there's one thing that exercise shows, it's that the one thing that would have the biggest impact on balancing the budget isn't cuts, but raising taxes.
Yet if we're supposedly in some life and death emergency like Rand Paul says, how come the GOP doesn't even want to consider raising taxes? After all, if both rich and poor would inevitably be screwed otherwise, the fiscal health of the nation would mandate shared sacrifice, and that would include taxes on the rich.
Here's my theory why (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast).

Apple tends to give technology a very "feminine" touch - meaning the products tend to have very curvy, attractive, almost sensual lines....Attractive, minimalist design will always have some association with feminine sensibilities. This is normal.
Dude. You need to get out of the house and out from behind your iDevices.

The sort of money you put down on a Mac you shouldn't expect anything less than USB 3.0 from here on out. Core 2 Duo in 2010 leaves a lot to be desired.
Please take this with a big grain of salt... I met an apple store employee when I went out to a bar on Friday night. I asked him, off the record, wink, wink, if he thought any new macs (pros, imacs, or mbps) would offer USB 3 soon. He said he highly doubted it and wouldn't be surprised if it was a year or two before USB 3 was offered in macs. He also said that apple store employee aren't usually told to a day or two before about new products coming in so he laughed and added "So what do I know?"

If CorvusCamenarum's theory is correct, white people better shape up! No more whining, no more excuses. Diminish funds for white people and expand them for black people.
If his theory is correct, expanding funds for black people wouldn't change their genetics. So no.

And that is fine, but from a practical standpoint, as I said, you must figure out how to deal with localized economic distress caused by cuts in the military. You also have to deal with the fact that the military controls access to some really impressive weaponry. Take these two things together, the prospect of sudden poverty and ghost towns and the prospect of a bunch of rather testosterone-amped cowboys having their guns taken away, to me that looks like a recipe for major disaster and probably the reason the Pentagon's budget is so difficult to rein in.
I certainly have no problem with the idea of wasting a whole lot less money on "defense". I just think the realities of such cuts need to be looked at from the big-picture perspective.
So, in this situation, would the Military Complex be called an entitlement program, as much of it exists solely to keep people from starving or going homeless? Because that's what it sounds like to me when you talk about it like this.

Thanks! I was waiting for the sunset over the city last night and the clouds screwed me. So I stuck around in the cold and took some night shots. Here's another from the same bench that I didn't like as much.

No, agreed, the first one is much better. I like the emptiness contrasted with the big city sky. It gives it a nice, romantic and almost nostalgic feeling.
Here's one from my latest concert shoot, Streetlight Manifesto. I had forgotten how much fun ska punk was! These guys were all over the place. I got lucky with this shot and timed it just when someone else released their flash from a P&S.

True, but at the same time there two things to consider. A lot better battery life and brighter screen. Those are the two positives of having OLEDs in the first place. True it might just be a rumor, but I guess we'll find out when we get these new ipods. (OLEDS can do pure black)
They're not using OLED screens. From the iPod nano tech specs:

It's definitely just a regular LCD screen.

Hopefully it will come out within a fortnight otherwise it will be a long wait to MWSF :( I envisage just increased HD and possibly 1GB ram standard if it comes out within the fortnight. But if the C2D Macbook comes out MWSF there better be some decent upgrades! Maybe dedicated graphics card or at least the X3000.
That's exactly the same hope I'm living in. I'd guess the update is just around the corner. They're just itching to get their hands on our money before christmas. And also that way we can keep whining about the lack of a GPU. But a tiny bump on RAM and HD wouldn't be bad! :)

I agree, but how will we make people feel guilty for murdering someone? I think we can teach children morals without religion but I think there needs to be some coordinated effort to make this possible. This author is at least trying.
Do you really think people are just gong to run around killing each other if there's no religion? Really?
Also, believe or not atheists get cancer, lose their jobs, and generally have hard times. People need comfort and support and if there is no religion then there has to be some structure in place to help people through these difficulties.
Yeah, I had a lot of rough times medically this year. I did not need to pray to some "god" to get through them.

Has anyone beat it on legendary? Is there a different ending?
I haven't finished my Legendary run yet, but I've talked with people who have, and as of right now, there is no extra ending for Legendary. There are a bunch of hidden items in the game (Data Pads, Gold Ranger Elites, Switches, etc), and people are thinking that completing some, or all of these things, in conjunction with Legendary difficulty, might yield a different ending. We'll have to wait and see. It just wouldn't be a Halo game without a special ending. And, given this is Bungie's last Halo, it would be really strange if they didn't include one.

Seriously folks, you have all forgotten that WWDC is not a marketing event. It is a conference for developers. If you take a look at the WWDC page (http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/), you'll notice that there will be lots of talks on various technologies in Mac OS X. That is why all this stuff is depicted on the banner. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the person taking this picture have said that there was two covered banners and this was the only visible one. So, really, this banner is not speculation material. Only a few days left now, we'll find out about all the new stuff soon.

well i dont think mbp and ipads have the same market.. and anyway i would never buy an ipad until i see it in a shop and i can try it..i don tthink they r goign to sell that many ipads now but well who knows
hopefully next tuesday
Are you kidding? They're already running out of the pre-orders. Demand is clearly outstripping supply for the iPads and they're not even released yet.
I do think, though, that releasing some new MBPs and MPs would be a nice way to assuage the disgruntled pre-orderers of the iPad when they get told they can't pre-order.

In a word, no. I've seen the demonstrations on the Internet about how you can find another person using a Zune and give them a song they can play three times. It takes forever. By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you're connected with about two feet of headphone cable.

Well that hardly guarantees you'd be fun to hang around with now. :p
And if repetitive lyrics aren't your thing, what about Alvin Lee singing "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock? :D

Don't worry.
If the Chinese economy keeps growing at the same rate over the next decade they will be setting up manufacturing plants in the USA to take advantage of the cheap American labour. ;)
Haier, a Chinese company, currently manufactures appliances in South Carolina. Labor costs are not that relevant in modern manufacturing because of the level of automation.

Before getting slapped... I guess if youre a billionaire you can shove earbuds into a strangers ear, but here in Real World USA the results would not be pretty. Do that with your girlfriend, I dont think ANYONE would want a stranger theyve known for 1 minute coming up to them and putting crap into their ear.
If you're unable to walk up to a girl and ask her if she wants to listen to a cool song, but more than ready to semi-anonymously ask the same thing by connecting to her music player ... well, I guess the Zune might have a market with the socially inept looking for others who are socially inept.
But, in my opinion, if I were to ask someone to listen to a cool song, I'd want to strike up a conversation first, maybe introduce the song, etc. Sending a message like "Someone wants you to listen to something. Accept?" just soounds creepy.
And, no, if asked to listen to something by someone unwilling to identify themselves, my answer would be "no", period. That kind of person is too likely to send me heavy breathing or a breathless rant on global consumerism spliced into the middle of a Britney Spears track (the rant might be okay by itself, but ...)
So, no, I see no advantage in that scenario at all.

I hope what this shows the PC makers is that it's not just a race to the bottom as far as price is concerned, but that people are willing to pay more for a device if it's built well and does a good job.
Stop worrying about shaving that extra dollar off the price and providing the rock-bottom rickety low-cost PC that will fall apart in a few months; instead, go ahead and invest in computers with longer battery life, better build quality, and other useful features -- consumers are willing to pay for it.
Agreed... I think many manufactures are in a self imposed trap to increase sales through discount pricing. But they also cram in the specs to impress, but the components are sub-grade and the longevity is not there.
Case in point... a friend of mine is complaining about her desktop machine. It's about 2 and half years old and she's ready to replace it. Parts keep dying and performance degrades really fast.
So, the reality in todays market is, you can buy a cheap PC and you're signing up for about 3 years of on and off problems, or you can buy a Mac and get 5+ years of almost flawless to flawless performance.
The MBP I have now is almost 5 years old and has had no problems in that time. That in it's self has been worth every extra dime.
But again... from a general consumer standpoint... people get some iDevice, they love it, get to know Apple, visit the stores and see the excitement and then they're hooked... they want more.

well considering the CFO of verizon said the unlimited data plans were not a long term solution, yeah it's pretty feasible to think that they won't keep it around forever.

yeah, but those droid updates are not 600mb - 1gb in size..
That was BEFORE THE T-mobile + ATT merger was announced! WHEN VZW was the largest cell company.
I have a feeling VZW will reverse it's stance and keep unlimited data longer than expected to stay competitive against T-mobile + ATT.
Now with the merger coming , VZW will have to stay competitive, unlimited data makes them more attractive against the ATT + T-Mobile super company.

Go read their SEC filings.
They make money selling hardware.
An operating system is a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs co-exist peacefully on the same system. However, Apple does not generate much revenue from software sales. If they did, it would be a separate line item in their financials and they would probably need to disclose more information about software sales, since such a large part of the increase in shareholder value would be dependent on it.
Same deal with iTunes Store sales, App Store revenue, MobileMe subscriptions, etc. Not a major part of their bottom line. Apple uses software and content to drive sales of their high-margin hardware.
While what you say is definitely true, context matters! WWDC is not for hardware developers but is predominantly for software developers. If it is not a software company, why would so many software developers throng to their conference? Calling it a software company in this context does not take anything away from it being a hardware company, the way you describe it.

Time Machine seems more like the Shadow Copies on Server only on a local level rather than a network drive. (example attached)
I'm assuming they will use a form of Single Instance Storage with TM, so you have one copy of the file and only the deltas from any changes to reduce space requirements.
I use Shadow Copies on our network all the time, it is very handy. The concept and implementation of Time Machine is not original. Apple simply slapped Eye Candy on it and raved about how it is a revolution.
Outside of my company's network, which has tons of server space, I don't know if I would want Time Machine to automatically make backups. Guess I am just old school and prefer to manually make backups. That way I am maximizing my personal hardrive space.
